‘I love that Rose behaved her age. People want girls who portray teenagers to act 25, and that’s not genuine. Kudos to “The Girl Who Acted Her Age.” ;)’
wut. I’ve never seen a teenager behave like Rose. Rose doesn’t befriend a bunch of other teens and get wasted with them or txts 24/7 or bugs her mum for money all the time and so on. What could possibly lead anyone to believe that she acted her age?
Quoi?
Real teenagers don’t act like the ones you see on TV or in movies. Sure, some of them do, but mostly teenagers are just people who have yet to completely mature.
And that’s who Rose is. She is kind and compassionate. But sometimes she’s a bit self-involved, as teenagers often are, and thinks she knows best. See: her intereaction with Gwenyth. She’s also pretty immature in how she handles her relationship with Mickey. She’s clearly over the relationship, but he’s familiar and safe and she’s reluctant to completely break it off with him, so she keeps him around even when she’s moving on. It kind of reminds me of when you graduate high school and move off to college and you don’t break up with your high school boyfriend right away. Your life is changing and you’re moving on, but you’re still reluctant to let go of that bit of your past. I also love Rose’s relationship with Jackie. Part of growing up that all teenagers go through is asserting your independence from your parents. Jackie wants Rose to stick around, but Rose is discovering what she wants to do with her own life. She doesn’t want to stay in London. So she starts to spread her wings and she makes the decision to leave her mom and travel with the Doctor.
So yeah, Rose goes through a lot of the same stuff that real teenagers and young adults do. She is brave and compassionate, but she also sometimes fails at handling her interpersonal relationships. And I love her for it.
Behaved her age…? Well, yeah, it’s true...is a realistic character
