when people say “the doctor is the same person”

i disagree?

because sure, the actors play the same character by name, but each incarnation has a different personality, different habits etc

and ten said it himself, in the cafe scene with wilf, that he dies and some new man goes sauntering away

so people are more than likely to have preferences, adore one incarnation more than all the others, have some sort of order, maybe even dislike one or two of them…

it’s similar with the companions; they’re all different, and that’s the beauty of doctor who 

Yeah I mean

He’s the “same” in terms of experience and some basic fundamental traits — a do-gooder, etc — but the personality changes quite a lot between regenerations so it makes total sense that people would have preferences, or ship a character with one Doctor and not another, etc etc. It’s hilarious to me that just because I happened to like one Doctor I’m supposed to like absolutely all of them even if they behave in almost entirely different ways.

Shit, it makes sense that the COMPANIONS would prefer a Doctor or click better with one over another or whatever — I mean AFAIK the show hasn’t gone there with a companion liking one and then he regenerates and they don’t like the next guy, but I do find it stupid how people will crucify Rose, for example, for being upset when Nine becomes Ten, or being upset that Ten might regenerate in TSE. Like lol, sorry she’s not okay with the guy she loves exploding into flames without warning and turning into a brand new person, or that she’s not delighted by the prospect of the guy she loves turning into a brand new person after she spent years trying to see him again.
